The Geneva Learning Foundation launches on TikTok: Meeting learners where they are to build meaningful connections
Are you on TikTok?
With over two billion active users, TikTok is where information increasingly flows in today’s world, especially in Africa, Asia, and Latin America where most of our learning communities work for health.
We know that WhatsApp remains dominant in many countries where we work – reaching, for example, 94% of internet users in South Africa compared to TikTok’s 74%.
Yet TikTok’s engagement rates are nearly four times higher than other social platforms.
We have a responsibility as educators and health professionals to be present where our communities learn.
If we do not meet learners where they are, we risk ceding these vital spaces to misinformation.
Expanding our network to increase impact
No single expert has all the answers.
Real solutions emerge when health workers share what actually works on the ground.
Each new connection – each new voice, experience, and insight shared – increases the probability that someone will find a solution or idea that helps them tackle a challenge in their context.
Take Nigeria, which has the largest population in Africa and one of our biggest learning communities. With over 27 million TikTok users there alone, this platform offers significant potential to strengthen peer learning networks.
Similar growth is happening across Asia and Latin America, making TikTok an increasingly important channel to connect health workers.
What will you find on our channel?
The Geneva Learning Foundation brings frontline voices from our community of over 60,000 health professionals to TikTok through a stream of lived experiences, challenges, and solutions.
Here are just a few examples:
• Frontline workers in Kenya battling climate impacts on health
• Community champions in Nigeria building vaccine confidence
• Public health specialists in India developing early warning systems
• Nurses in Ghana protecting pregnant women from malaria
• And many more dedicated professionals sharing what works
These voices flow from our live events like Teach to Reach, which connect health workers from more than 70 countries.
Our TikTok channel lets you tap into this river of knowledge – you might discover a local solution that works in your context, gain a new insight, or find inspiration from a colleague facing similar challenges.
The value comes from the network itself: the more health workers share their experiences, the richer the flow of practical wisdom becomes.
Like a river, it’s constantly moving – you can dip in anytime to find what resonates with your needs and interests.
