The world is changing. In some countries, populations are getting older very fast. In other countries, the population is still young, but people are living longer than before. This is a victory for public health. However, it brings new challenges for healthy ageing. Who will care for our elders? How do we support women through the transitions of midlife?

You may feel alone in facing these challenges. You may see older people in your clinic or community who have needs that go beyond simple medicine. You may see women struggling with menopause in silence.

The Geneva Learning Foundation invites you to join the new Certificate peer learning programme in ageing. This is a place where you will meet, network, and learn with thousands of other health professionals from all over the world. It is also where you can earn recognition for your experience and for what you are doing.

Why this programme is different

We do not believe that an expert in a distant office knows more about your community than you do. Your experience matters.

At The Geneva Learning Foundation, we know that when health workers share their experience, they can solve problems that money alone cannot fix. We call this “collective intelligence”. Now, we are applying this powerful engine to the challenge of ageing and menopause.

What you will learn and do

This programme connects your daily work to the new Local Leadership Competency Framework. You will not just learn theory. You will build the skills to lead change.

  1. Make the invisible visible: You will learn to see the people in your community who are often ignored by the system.
  2. Practice holistic care: You will learn to treat the whole person, not just the disease.
  3. Challenge systemic barriers: You will learn to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Who should join

We welcome leaders at all levels. You do not need a specific job title to be a leader.

  • If you are a nurse, midwife, or doctor: You will gain practical tools to integrate healthy ageing into your daily clinical work.
  • If you are a community health worker: You will learn how to explain healthy ageing to families in your village or district.
  • If you are a manager or policymaker: You will learn why you must count older adults and women over 50 in your data. You cannot fix what you do not measure.

How we learn together about healthy ageing

Our method is simple but powerful. It follows a four-step cycle:

  • Diagnose: We ask you a question about your real work. For example: “What is the biggest challenge for older people in your area?”
  • Share: You share your experience. You do not need to write a perfect essay. You just need to tell your truth.
  • Peer Review: You read the experiences of colleagues from other countries. You give them feedback, and they give you feedback. This is how we learn to see through the eyes of others.
  • Network: You connect with the people you meet. You build a circle of trust that stays with you after the course ends.

Practical details

  • Cost: The primers are free of charge. We believe that money should not be a barrier to access learning.
  • Language: The programme is available in English and French.
  • Time: You can participate in your own time. The primers are designed to fit into your busy schedule.
  • Certificate: If you complete the required steps, you will receive a certificate from The Geneva Learning Foundation. This validates your commitment to your professional growth.
